To bring the California disability and business communities together to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the ADA and to promote the expansion of a barrier-free and inclusive society.
The Disability Unity Festival: Strengthening our Communities ~ Celebrating 25 years of the ADA is a public event that brings California residents, businesses, and organizations together to celebrate the value of all members of our community – a community that makes California a vibrant, diverse, forward-thinking, and exciting place to live, work, learn, and grow.
PARADE AND FESTIVAL
- Formerly known as the West Coast Disability Pride Parade & Festival: A parade that celebrates disability as a natural and beautiful part of the human condition and promotes pride in the diversity and unity of all communities.
- Parade floats depicting participant’s celebration of the ADA.
- A 1.0 mile parade / rally route, leading from Federal Office Building, United Nations Plaza to Civic Center Plaza in San Francisco, will allow for a visible and orderly line of walking and rolling participants and slow moving floats/vehicles.
- A vendor area for businesses and organizations to showcase their products and services for people with disabilities, employers, and the public. Dynamic displays, use audio/visual displays, swag and product samples encouraged.

Six Independent Living Center (ILC) organizations/programs are co-sponsoring this event: Center for Independence of Individuals with Disabilities, San Mateo; Community Resources for Independent Living, Hayward; Independent Living Resources of Solano and Contra Costa, Concord; Independent Living Resource Center, San Francisco; Marin Center for Independent Living, San Rafael; Silicon Valley Independent Living Center, San Jose, together with the California Foundation for Independent Living, Sacramento and the Disability Organizing Network. ILCs are peer-based disability organizations that advocate and provide resources for people with disabilities.
Are you, or someone you know, a wheelchair user who wants to audition for an emergency preparedness
PSA for FEMA and the Ad Council?
Casting: real female and male
wheelchair users for the role of parents.
This “action only” PSA does not require memorizing a script.
If selected for audition tomorrow Saturday, June 20 (11am-2 pm), in SF Bay Area, you MUST be available for filming on Monday, June 22 and Tuesday, June 23 at a location in the SF Bay Area.
Our community is keenly aware of the disability-inclusive diversity action of FEMA under the leadership of Marcie Roth. This PSA will spread the word in the general public nationwide about emergency preparedness during natural disasters for people with disabilities!
If interested, please e-mail your picture to Tari@EINSOFcommunications.com with “FEMA PSA Audition” in the subject line. Those accepted for an audition on June 20 MUST be available to film the PSA on June 22 and June 23 at a SF East Bay accessible location - TBD.
