MENTAL HEALTH

The Center for Independence of San Mateo promotes full and equal community integration and participation for people with all disabilities in San Mateo County,
including those with mental health conditions, with and without physical disabilities.
CID IS COMMITTED TO ADVOCATING FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE MENTAL HEALTH DISABILITIES AND FACE INEQUALITIES, HARSH CONDITIONS, AND BARRIERS TO CARE.

PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES HAVE HISTORICALLY BEEN ISOLATED
DUE TO IGNORANCE, NEGLECT, SUPERSTITION, AND FEAR (UNITED NATIONS).
DISABILITY RIGHTS WERE FIRST FRAMED AS A HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUE IN THE LEGAL LITERATURE IN THE EARLY NINETIES.
ALTHOUGH LEGAL PROTECTIONS AND INITIATIVES HAVE
BEEN PUT IN PLACE TO ENSURE EQUAL RIGHTS FOR
PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES,
LARGE GAPS REMAIN.

We have created this page to help you through your journey in the mental health world:  whether you are a consumer, family member, friend, or advocate yourself.
